The nation’s five service academies offer appointments to highly qualified individuals who meet eligibility requirements and are the most competitive in academic performance, physical fitness, medical standards, extracurricular involvement and community service, leadership traits, motivation and aptitude for military service.
Successful candidates for selection to a service academy must apply directly to and meet the admission requirements of the specific academy and receive a Congressional Nomination. A Congressional Nomination is not needed for the United States Coast Guard Academy.

Service academy applicants are eligible for nomination by both United States Senators in the state of their legal residence and the United States Representative for the District in which they reside, as well as the Vice President.
Due to the high volume of applicants and limited number of nominations permitted per member of Congress, candidates are strongly encouraged to also apply for a nomination from Senator Booker and your U.S. Representative.
Seeking a nomination from other offices will not affect your chances of securing a nomination from Senator Helmy.
If you have any questions about the nominations process please contact Leann in our office by phone at (856) 757-5353 or by email at Academy_@helmy.senate.gov.
