Congratulations on taking your first step towards military service. I commend you for wanting to begin a career of service to the United States. Students must receive a Nomination in order to compete for an Appointment (admittance) to the Air Force Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, West Point, or the Naval Academy. Due to an exceptionally competitive process, it is encouraged that students apply to all service academies. Please be aware of the following Service Academy Nomination Application Requirements and Processes:
Service Academy Nomination Applicant Requirements:
Be a United States Citizen;
Be a legal resident of the State of Nevada;
Not be married, pregnant, and must have no legal obligations to support any dependents; and
Applicants must be at least 17 years old, but not have passed their 23rd birthday by July 1 of the year of admission. Candidates for admission to the Merchant Marine Academy must be at least 17 years old, but not have passed their 25th birthday by July 1 of the year of admission.
Nomination Process and Due Dates
Online Applications must be completed by 11:59pm Pacific Time on Tuesday, October 31st, 2023
*Physical documents unable to be uploaded must arrive at the office by 5:00pm on Tuesday, October 31st, 2023
Students who submit completed files by Tuesday, October 31st, 2023, may be selected for an interview. If granted an interview, students will be notified of their interview date and time via email.
*Late applications are not accepted. Resumes are not accepted.
University Students and Preparatory School Applicants
Follow the application instructions including the essay portion. You can submit previous year recommendation letters and high school transcripts however, it is recommended to send at least one recommendation letter from an instructor at your university or preparatory school.
Reminders:
Apply for a nomination from all three Members of Congress from Nevada (two U.S. Senators and your Congressional District Representative) in order to optimize your opportunity to receive a nomination. This is a highly competitive process and nominations are not guaranteed. It is strongly encouraged that you apply to more than one service academy, all three Members of Congress and any other Nomination Source that you are eligible for.
