Senator Booker is excited to announce his office's Summer Internship Program for Undergraduates and Recent Graduates from Undergraduate Institutions, for the Washington, DC, Newark, NJ, and Camden, NJ offices. Prospective High School applicants may apply for the Accelerated High School Session in Newark and Camden offices.

Please note: we continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 public health crisis, and will adjust the program format accordingly to meet the health and safety needs of interns and employees. 

We are currently only accepting applications for Summer 2025. Please check back this summer if you are interested in the Fall 2025 Session.

The internship application deadlines are as follows:

Summer 2025 Sessions: Friday, April 11, 2025 at 11:59 PM.

Fall 2025 Session: Summer 2025 *Check back for specific date.

Spring 2026 Session: Fall 2025 *Check back for specific date.

The sessions are structured as follows:

The Undergraduates/Recent Graduates Summer Internship Program will be broken into two sessions:

Session One runs from Tuesday, May 13 to Friday, June 20.

Session Two runs from Tuesday, June 24 to Friday, August 1.

The High School Accelerated Session will be fourteen consecutive business days in August:

This Session, for high school students only, will run from Tuesday, August 12 to Friday, August 29.

Please note that college credits and stipends are for undergraduates and recent undergraduate students only.

 

The Fall Internship Session runs from September to mid-December.

The Spring Internship Session runs from January to mid-May.

 

Internship responsibilities:

State Office duties consist of a broad range of constituent services and community outreach. Assignments include, but are not limited to:

  • Communicate with the public via incoming phone calls, constituent e-mails, and office visits.
  • Process incoming mail, constituent opinions, and correspondence.
  • Assist the Projects team with outreach, legislative, and federal grant projects.
  • Accompany staff to local community events.
  • Collaborate on group projects with fellow interns and colleagues.
  • Build spreadsheets, draft memos, and conduct research.

 

In the DC Office, interns may also be expected to:

  • Work with legislative staff on research projects.
  • Draft letters on various policy issue areas.
  • Give Capitol tours.
  • Attend committee hearings and briefings.
  • Assist staff with scheduling items.
