Research Assistant Position Description: The Democratic staff of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee is seeking Research Assistants to support its governmental affairs team in performing oversight and legislative activities within the Committee’s jurisdiction. The relevant portfolios include the following agencies and issue areas: Postal Service, Census Bureau, Office of Management and Budget, regulatory affairs and grants; Inspectors General, ethics, whistleblowers, National Archives and federal records, D.C. relations, and other policy areas related to good governance. Ideal candidates would have 2-3 years of related policy, government, or legal experience. Experience on the Hill is preferred but not required. Primary responsibilities include conducting research, drafting oversight letters, preparing memos regarding legislative proposals and Committee hearings, meeting with stakeholders, and other associated responsibilities. Candidates must be exceptionally strong writers, detail-oriented, be able to work under tight deadlines, and be able to handle multiple projects at once. Salary will be based on education and experience.
