U.S. Senator John Fetterman seeks a highly skilled Communications Director to lead an active and fast-paced communications team in Washington D.C.  

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:  

  • Serves as an on-the-record spokesperson for the senator;
  • Develops and oversees all communications for the senator’s office and manages the communications team.
  • Develops and executes all aspects of a comprehensive, long-term communications plan, utilizing print, digital, and social media.
  • Advises the senator on communications and messaging strategy to convey the senator’s priorities and achievements in state and national media.
  • Writes and edits speeches, op-eds, and news releases; plans and implements national and local media strategies that reflects the office’s legislative priorities.
  • Prepares and staffs the senator for interviews, press conferences and events, pitches stories and places columns.
  • Maintains strong relationships with state and national press corps, as well as Senate colleagues.
  • Travels with the senator regionally and nationally as necessary.

The ideal applicant will have at least 6-10 years of experience working on a communications team, preferably on Capitol Hill or in the Administration. Candidates must have exceptional written and oral communication skills, experience handling high-pressure situations, as well as extensive experience pitching and working directly with reporters, including in an on-the-record capacity. Experience leading a communications team or management experience is preferred but not required. Applicant must work well in a team environment and have sound political judgment.
