Thank you for your interest in serving with the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Republican staff. Due to COVID-19, we are no longer accepting applications for the Spring 2021 semester. Please check back for future opportunities. -----

Serving as an Intern or Law Clerk with the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs offers a genuine opportunity for college students, graduate students or recent graduates to gain first-hand experience working on issues of homeland security and government oversight; and to learn about the legislative process. You will be given the opportunity to experience how the Senate works on a daily basis and work directly with professional staff.

Responsibilities include performing research, drafting letters and memos, attending hearings, and providing general administrative support.

The ideal candidate would have an interest in the separation of powers and policy within the Committee’s jurisdiction.  Prior experience working on Capitol Hill, in the Executive Branch, or on political campaigns is preferred but not required.  The ideal candidate is quick on their feet, motivated, and a fast learner with strong oral and written communication skills.  A good sense of humor is a requirement!

The Committee is willing to assist applicants who seek to obtain academic credit for their experiences.
