Senate Internships

Students interning with one of my offices will have the opportunity to learn about the legislative process and get a first-hand look at how the U.S. Senate works. Full-time and part-time internships are available in my Washington, D.C. and Virginia offices year round.

Due to the large number of applications we receive, my office is unable to offer an internship to every applicant. Interested candidates should fill out an application by following the instructions. The summer session is reserved for rising seniors in college due to the large number of applications we receive during that time of the year. The fall/winter and spring sessions are open to students at any point in their college careers. Preference will be given to Virginia residents and in-state college students.

Washington, D.C. Office:

Interns in my Washington, D.C. office will get an up close look at the legislative process and see how the U.S. Senate functions. D.C. interns research legislative issues, give tours of the Capitol, attend committee hearings and provide administrative support to my staff.  For further information about internship opportunities in my Washington, D.C. office, call Kathy Wilmoth at 202-224-6899. or email her on Intern_Program@kaine.senate.gov

State Offices:

Internships in the state offices allow students to see how my work helps Virginians throughout the Commonwealth. Interns assist in research as well as special projects and events. They also perform various administrative tasks such as greeting guests, sorting mail and drafting correspondence. For more information about interning in the state offices, you may contact my Regional Director at the numbers below. Hiring decisions will be made by the Regional Director in each office.
