Senator Thune's Internship Program
On behalf of Senator John Thune, thank you for your interest in an internship with one of his offices. The internship program allows students to work in the office they are interested in and allows them to learn how a Senate office operates. Interns in the state offices participate in various outreach activities, as well as assist the state staff. In contrast, students in the Washington, D.C., office, have the opportunity to witness the legislative process, give Capitol tours, and attend Senate votes and hearings. In-state and Washington, D.C., internships allow students to work closely with constituents, hone their research skills, and learn many office skills.
Applying
To apply for an internship, you must create an account through this website. Here you will complete the application, which consists of two parts – a questionnaire section and a checklist section.
The first part of the application is the questionnaire section, which consists of the following subsections:
- Personal Info
- Education Info
- Session & Office Location
- Short Answer
The second part of the application is the checklist section and requires the following documents:
- Cover Letter
- Resume
- Letter of Recommendation
NOTE: International students must have a pre-approved program authorized by the Senate Rules Committee to apply. We cannot accept non-US citizens as interns or employees.
Applications must be submitted through this website. The deadline to apply for Summer 2024 is Sunday, March 3.
