Serving as an Intern or Law Clerk with the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs offers a genuine opportunity for college students, graduate students or recent graduates to gain first-hand experience working on issues of homeland security and government oversight; and to learn about the legislative process. You will be given the opportunity to experience how the Senate works on a daily basis. You will perform research, draft letters and memos, attend hearings, and provide general administrative support.

The program is intended for recent graduates and those currently pursuing a degree. That said, we do consider students from a wide variety of backgrounds. We do not accept high school applicants. Awarding academic credit for an internship is at the discretion of your college or university. However, we will assist you in providing appropriate information as requested by your school. Arrangements for accreditation should be made before you begin the internship.

You will be responsible for your own housing arrangements, food, and transportation. You may seek financial assistance on your own from outside sources. The program is flexible and can be designed around your individual schedule. You can work part time while attending school. Your participation can last an entire year.
